This morning, Shari said she was feeling that she hasn’t been adventuring hard enough [paraphrase mine]. I listened and sympathized. Today was forecast to be sailing weather, but not sailing weather like yesterday. They were right but in the wrong way.
Along the coast of Nootka Island, a big island off the main island, we had gusts to 38 knots (after I said 31 in the video) and average winds in the 20s.
We both felt today was the perfect adventuring intensity level. I’m getting a handle on my seasickness, trying a barrage of different solutions all at once—I know that’s not scientific method, but it’s my life—to include 150% the recommended dosage of meclizine combined with cannabis sativa and caffeine in coffee and/or pill form. Today I was able to stay reasonably comfortable all day, while going below multiple times to use the head and change clothes as well as going to the mast to take a second reef in the mains’l while the boat was behaving like a big pitching-and-rolling thing, without having to wonder if I was going to puke.
Love the sailing video! How fast was your sog with only a double reefed main? Also, I see the crab ring in the background, any luck?
Getting the experience now, are we??!!
Nice going out there you guys….
